At Connect we are a warm vibrant Christian community with campuses in Paarl and Malmesbury, and we’d love to journey with you. We don’t believe in just doing “church services” — we believe in transformation through the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2) and equipping the saints for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:12). Guided by Christ-centered principles, Dr. John and Bernice Maralack lead with humility, wisdom, and a heart for transformation. Dr. John, eldest son of late Pastors, Lourens and Rhode Maralack—well known for their ministry in the AFM Church. Dr John is a Father(Shepherd) and visionary leader. He and his wife Bernice, who calls their daughters-in-law “daughters in love” in her book Mother in Love, have four sons: Dwain, Bright, Clint, and Byron. Dr. John co-founded Connect Church—formerly known as Valley Christian Fellowship—alongside the late Frikkie Vers. As an economist and author of Mysterious Me, he is passionate about advancing God’s Kingdom by embracing the biblical mandate given to Adam to exercise dominion—to steward and rule with God-given authority in every area of life. He often cites Jeremiah 3:15, emphasizing feeding God’s people with knowledge and understanding, and Proverbs 25:2, which says it is God’s glory to conceal a matter but the honor of kings to search it out. Living by this, he prays for wisdom, knowing every person is fearfully made (Psalm 139:14), formed from dust (Genesis 2:7), and a hidden treasure to be discovered and nurtured for God’s Kingdom.

If you’ve been around Connect Church, you’ve likely seen his heart in action. Bright serves as our Main Campus Ministry Pastor, leading with grace and always choosing love first. He’s not only a passionate leader in the church but also a driven businessman with a clear vision: to see God’s Kingdom impact every part of life

Leeroy Vers is the son of Connect Church co-founder Frikkie Vers, who passed away in 2021, and Laurita Vers, who continues to serve with wisdom and grace. He is married to Robin, and together they are raising their daughter Gia. Leeroy leads our Malmesbury Campus with a fiery passion for Jesus and a deep love for people. He carries the legacy of his father with conviction, living out the call in Acts 1:8 to take the Gospel to Jerusalem, Judea, and the ends of the earth. His life reflects bold faith, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to God’s Word
